Scope and Contents Artist Alexandre Hogue (1898-1994) was born in Memphis, Missouri and lived in Denton and Dallas, Texas before moving to Tulsa in 1945. He was chair of The University of Tulsa School of Art from 1945 to 1963 but continued teaching at the university until his retirement in 1968. Content Description Two autograph volumes of a diary kept by Alfred Dexter Morgan during his service with the 17th Illinois Cavalry Volunteers in 1864 and 1865. Morgan and his company saw duty primarily in Missouri, but was also stationed in Kansas at the end of the war. Missouri experienced some of the most bitter conflict due to sectionalism and protracted guerrilla warfare, and Morgan's diary speaks of the events occuring at that time. Scope and Contents A WWI sailor log of Alfred George Lawson on the U. S. S. Paulding from 1917-1919, which describes Lawon's experiences on the U. S. destroyer and his daily activities. The U. S. S. Paulding's primary duty was to escort convoys and protect them from German u-boat attacks. Most of the entries are very brief, merely talking about the weather and whether they were in port or at sea. However, others are much more detailed, particularly in the cases where the U. S. S. Paulding sank a submarine...
